First Impression Upon Encountering The Wanderer (circa 10th c.)

I hid
my lord
in the darkness of the earth

You said

Where is the horse gone? Where the rider?

I hid my face, my lord long dead.

Where the giver of treasure?

Gone deep and dark, places
where, for people like us,
all permanence rests.

I do a few things well - not many, but a few. I write, I help match people with nifty new jobs, and I also tell jokes. Badly.
