First Impression Upon Encountering The Wanderer (circa 10th c.)

I hid
my lord
in the darkness of the earth

You said

Where is the horse gone? Where the rider?

I hid my face, my lord long dead.

Where the giver of treasure?

Gone deep and dark, places
where, for people like us,
all permanence rests.

  1. Martin, I love this. Is this “The Wanderer” you mentioned in my comments? If so, I need to read it.
